Where to swim

Psili Ammos
If you must visit 1 beach during your stay, this is Psili Ammos. Prepare for a hike (~15-20’) you will enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets.
Make sure to grab lunch at the Taverna (serves until 15:00).
We recommend: Pastitsio, Katsikaki, fried potatoes with eggs

What to do

  • Visit the Monastery of St John the Divine or the Evangelist. It crowns the hill of Hora. It looks like a Byzantine castle and was built like a fortress in 1088. The monastery's walls are over 15 meters high, its length from north to south is 53 meters and from east to west 70 meters. Here one can get a glimpse of monastic life and absorb timeless history through the artifacts of its museum.

  • Visit the Holy Cave of the Apocalypse where John the Evangelist heard God and then recited the holy book of Revelation in 95A.D. There was a torn rock in the cave from which three smaller cracks occurred (symbolizing the Holy Trinity). It is through the cracks that John heard the voice of God. It has been declared a World Heritage Cultural Site by UNESCO. Visiting Hours: Daily 08:00-13:30, Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday 16:00-18:00

  • Visit the highest point of the island, the Chapel of Profitis Ilias for panoramic views of Patmos and an amazing sunset. On a clear day you can see from Lipsi, Leros to Kalymnos, Amorgos and even Mykonos islands.
